News - January 08

Happy New Year to everyone! Hope it's a good one. We'll keep you posted with what's going on - possibly a new recording in the making...

December 07

'Tis the season for mulled wine, open fires and playing lots of carols - some of the best traditional tunes ever! We hope you all have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Enjoy the mince pies!

We have just had some of our music used on a video trailer for a new board game about the battle of Chickamauga. The game is called Barren Victory and you can view the video in various different ways here: http://www.west2productions.com/Mapology/_NEW/Vid02.html

We are going to be playing at the Plough Arts Centre in Torrington for their regular fundraiser concert "Speed the Plough" on 12th January 2008. This concert features other local musicians including the Folk Orchestra of North Devon ( the group we are running for Wren Music). Hope to see you there!

November 07

Thanks to everyone who joined us on stage in Bridport from the workshop. Thanks also to Holly for the great review in the Bridport News! To read it follow this link: BRIDPORT NEWS REVIEW

We have an extra gig now this month at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth as part of their In the Flesh festival. We will be performing on Sunday 18th November with Rosa Rebecka and Clive PiG. Hope to see you there...

September 07

We had a great time at Bideford in August. Well done to all those who came to the workshops and played in the Saturday concert - it sounded brilliant!

If you didn't see us at Brampton, you can check out the gig on Youtube! Just click on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-w0G8tb18 to get there!

Also if you are interested, take a look at Westcoaster, a music collaboration with Bridport guitarist Mitch Norman. To hear some of our music go to www.myspace.com/westcoastermusic

We have just done some recording with Jackie Oates for her new album. Don't miss the Bridport Arts Centre gig on 6th October when we will be sharing the stage with Jackie for a bit of the evening!

July 07

Just got back from Tolpuddle and Brampton and we managed to avoid being completely washed away! The saga of the van continues with the blowers not working and in this weather you can't see out of the windows at all! Oh well...
Bideford Folk Festival is on it's way and we will be running workshops for musicians aged 11 -18 so if this applies to you please come along and join in! Hopefully see you there...

June 07

We had a brilliant time at Fishguard Folk Festival at the end of May - it was such a friendly festival with loads of great sessions!
Shepley was the week before and we had a bit of a disaster with the van on the way back and had to get towed all the way back to Devon from somewhere just south of Manchester! What a nightmare (the steering went a bit strange on the M6...)!
It seems to be OK now but we've got to get up to Brampton in July so if you see us hitching, please pick us up!

Some info about us...

Nick Wyke is an experienced performer and workshop leader whose skills have been tried and tested at major folk festivals including Sidmouth International Festival. He has performed throughout the country and in Europe both as a solo artist and with Cornish folk-rock band Sacred Turf.

Nick has developed a special care and talent for interpreting the local tunes of his region, especially the music of William Andrew of Dartmoor, and his ability in arranging and re-working traditional material is fundamental to the sound of the duo.
Nick also works as a freelance musician with bands such as Jiggerypipery and Heron.

Becki

Becki Driscoll started playing folk and traditional music in her home town of Bridport with ceilidh band Sundance and went on to study community music in Liverpool. Since graduating she has taught fiddle and led workshops both in Merseyside and the South West.

She composes many of the new tunes for the duo, drawing on her interest and knowledge of traditional English and Western European music for inspiration. Becki also plays with Anglo/Asian band The Angel Brothers.
